28th Annual
Hallockville Museum Farm Fall Festival and Craft Fair |
|
|
Hallockville Museum Farm will be holding its
28th Annual Fall Festival and Craft Fair on Saturday October 4th and
Sunday October 5th. Like last year’s successful
2-day event, this year’s gala will run for an entire weekend – mostly in
an effort to accommodate the growing number of visitors who come out to
experience this
unique look into traditional 1800s North Fork farm life.
The Festival will feature over 50 craftspeople displaying their unique
handmade folk art, demonstrations of wool spinning, weaving, quilting,
knitting, rug hooking,
chair caning, basket making, decoy and woodcarving. Other crowd-pleasing
activities include an antique tractor pull, hayrides, food, music,
children’s activities,
livestock displays, an old-fashioned storyteller and tours of our
historic farmstead. Taste and enjoy some of the East End’s premier
wines.
Festival hours are 10-5 each day. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for
children (5 – 12 years) and seniors. A special family (mom, dad and
their children) pass is
available for $18.
Hallockville Museum Farm, located at 6038 Sound Avenue in Riverhead, is
listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. It consists of 28
acres of farmland,
three residences and two barns dating back to the 1800s, and numerous
outbuildings. Visitors are welcome to walk around the farm at no
charge when we’re
not holding an event. Docent guided tours are also available. Programs
are supported in part by Suffolk County under the auspices of the Office
of Cultural Affairs.

Artmosphere LIVE - Long Island, N.Y. |
|
|
|
"Artmosphere” is a display, a live piece of
art, a simultaneous participation of all disciplines with the
involvement of the visual arts in a dynamic way. In a rare way,
the sensory experience will surround the audience. The dancers will be
“in the face” of the patrons and the music and sights will wash over
them stimulating their
senses and drawing them into the performance. This show is a
collaboration of many talented individuals and we would like to invite
you to become a part of
“Artmosphere”. If you believe in the magic that exists in an artist’s
mind, then come with us and make it happen.

International Film Expo to Feature Premier of “MO,” |

Long Island International Film Expo to
Feature Premier of “MO,”
Starring Erik Per Sullivan (Malcolm in the Middle)
Film is a touching true story produced by a Long Island filmmaker as a
loving tribute to his brother
Bellmore, New York (June 19, 2008) – Erik Per Sullivan of "Malcolm in
the Middle" stars in a more mature role as the title character in
"Mo," an inspirational, stylized independent movie from first-time
director Brian Scott Lederman, of Valley Stream. "Mo" is an amusing,
yet poignant true story about a boy (Lederman’s brother) living with
Marfan syndrome, a serious connective tissue disorder. "Mo" is the
centerpiece film at this year's Long Island International Film Expo,
premiering for the first time on Long Island on July 12, 2008, at 7:00
pm.
The Expo takes place at the Bellmore Movies (222 Pettit Avenue,
Bellmore).
Brian Scott Lederman's directorial debut set on Long Island tells a
charming personal journey of adolescence, self-discovery, hardship
and existence. Mo tries, successfully, to be normal and to live a
carefree kid's life, as he is indeed surrounded by much love from his
family members and friends.
The film was shot in Valley Stream, and in notable spots including
Pancho’s in Oceanside, Sun & Surf Beach Club in Atlantic Beach,
and Malverne High School and Elementary School. Living on Long Island,
the husband and wife team of Brian Scott Lederman and Monica
Lederman produced "Mo" together and call the film a "genuine labor of
love."
Said Brian, "We are so excited to be in the Long Island International
Expo and know this opportunity will give ‘Mo’ a chance to be seen by
people who will relate to the familiar locations and mannerisms.”
“Mo” was recognized as the Best U.S. Film at the Wine Country Film
Festival in Northern California in July 2007. The film also was honored
with the Audience Choice Award in April 2007 at the Malibu Film
Festival. Other screenings were at the 2007 Tribeca Enterprises Drive-In
Series at Rockefeller Center (2007), the Boston Film Festival (2007),
and the Cannes Film Market (2008).
More about Marfan Syndrome
Marfan syndrome is a potentially fatal genetic disorder of connective
tissue. Marfan syndrome and related connective tissue disorders affect
approximately 200,000 Americans. Because connective tissue makes up the
entire body, the disorder manifests itself in many body systems,
including the skeletal system, eyes, lungs, blood vessels and heart.
Many people with Marfan syndrome experience an expansion of the aorta.
Without proper monitoring and medications to reduce the stress on the
aorta, affected people are at high risk for aortic dissection or
rupture,
which could result in sudden death.
Studies about the increased life expectancy for people with Marfan
syndrome provide great hope and optimism, but only through
increased awareness, earlier diagnosis and proper treatment can people
with the disorder expect to live a normal life span.
It is estimated that approximately 50,000-60,000 people in the United
States have the disorder; about half of them are not diagnosed.

The children of Frederick and Eileen Mosher
of East Patchogue are proud to announce and celebrate their parents’
60th wedding anniversary on June 5th, 2008.
They both grew up in Queens NY.
Eileen was introduced to Fred by Fred's sister, Lois, after Fred
returned from service in the US Navy after WW2.
They were married June 5th 1948, and shortly after moved to West Islip,
as the family increased, they moved to Islip and raised 4 children.
Fred worked 18 years for Thomas Bread, then was a supervisor at
Entenmann's Bakery in Bayshore.
Eileen worked intermittently while her children were growing up, but
then worked at both Mercy Hospital in Rockville Center, and Nassau
Hospital in Mineola
when her children were older. They both retired in 1983 and traveled 6
months across the country, before deciding to move to Murrells Inlet,
South Carolina.
They moved back to East Patchogue in 2002 to be closer to their children
and grandchildren.
We are very fortunate to have both our parents healthy and able to
celebrate this special occasion.
Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad, we love you.
Robert, Jean and Bill. |
